In-Check DIAL
The In-Check DIAL is a hand held instrument composed of two parts:-
Together, they produce an instrument that can accurately simulate the resistance encountered when using a number of different inhalers, and then measure the inspiratory flow rate that would be achieved when inhaling through that device.
The instrument
is supplied with a sterilisable plasic mouthpiece, and an adaptor which enables
you to use a paediatric mouthpiece if necessary. The recommended inspiratory
flow rates for optimum performance of each device have been collated
on a separate card, the Optimum Flow Range card.
It is
now possible to quickly
identify those patients who
are not using their inhaler
correctly, and either
improve their technique
through training, or suggest
alternative devices which
can be used optimally.
For new patients, the In-Check DIAL will help avoid unsuitable devices, and enhance the teaching given by the healthcare professional. Because it has always been difficult to see air move, many people have not realised how much difference there is between a "slow" and a "fast" inhalation - for a new patient, the best technique is taught from the first time they use their inhaler, thus reducing the risk of patients learning a poor inhaler routine.
Designed for use by the professional, the In-Check DIAL will reassure both parents and the clinician that children are using their device correctly; for other age-groups, it provides visual feedback on how to make the most of the inhalers they are using.
Before operating the instrument, please read the instructions supplied carefully, and keep them safe for future reference. In-Check DIAL complies with the essential requirements of the medical devices directive (93/42/EEC). Compliance has been verified by UK notified body per 0120 (SGS Yarsley). Each product displays the CE0120 compliance mark.
